As a historian working on postwar Japan, I found this book both eye-opening and thought-provoking. It is a very welcome addition to a growing bank of scholarship that is giving more clarity to a period (1945–present) that is now almost as long as the period from the Meiji Restoration to the end of World War II (1868–1945).
